Before
DK Meserve - my two "forrestcats":
When I fell in love with the giant gentle feline,
I didnīt think I would ever need a pedigree. For me that was
irrelevant, I thought - I wasnīt going to show with my cat, I
wasnīt going to breed - I just wantet a Maine Coon... To
me the Maine Coon has always visually been like a Lynx with the
mind of a kitten... I never doubted that I had to own one of
theese one day. So... I
bought myself a wonderful Poly-male - beautiful, loving, adoring
and just delicious. I bought him without a pedigree. There was
love enough where he came from - but no pedigrees...

As Picasso P grew I thought it would be good for him to have some
company - so I "got him" a real nice "Norwegian Forest
Cat"...also without a pedigree - and later they had one litter of
kittens. It was beautifull
and harmonious kittens... and they are all in good homes now and
live as neuters.

I
really got incredible many bad words on the behalf and it really
frustrated me and hurt me - becouse no one took time to sit down and TELL
ME - educate me - about the reason the pedigree is so important. No one told
me what the real difference is between pedigree and not-pedigree.
What use you can have from a pedigree and how much work there is
put into the breeding.

Decisions
are made...:
I contacted a breeder and got to know her. She is a super breeder
- and she had some real beautiful
Maine Coons. I told her things as it was - I did not mince my
words. And then... she seriously took care of me and slowly I have
gotten so much wiser.
She explained things to me, she told me so many things that earlier had been
totally unknown to me. My eyes were opened to the importancy of
the big "paper-work" and all that has to do with
breeding.
As
long as no one had taken the time to tell me - as long as no one
had explained properly to me I couldnīt understand
it. I hope other breeders will do the same if they meet a curious
cat-person who just doesnīt know any better. Do not pick on someone
who has a cat with no pedigree - explaine it to him or her why it
is so important. But also accept that some people donīt want a
pedigree - or donīt think they need it. That is what I call
mutual respect.
(Of cause there are people to whom it has been explained a
million times - and who still havenīt learned from it. But not
all people are that ignorant!) I
would like to thank Anette from Wytopitlock
Maine Coons. She opened my eyes and showed a magnanimity
I will never forget. She gave me the chance to show who I am and
what I stand for. Something I have not had the opportunity to do
before in all this.
After
the DK Meserve decision:
After my lang talk with Anette I took some decisions. My two
cats were neutered and I joined Jyrak. I applyed for my
breedername and did all I could to learn, get info - and to show
other people that my decision is serious.
The
cats:
At Wytopitlock I bought my first "paper-kitten".
The 4th of June 2004 a beautiful Maine Coon-girl moved in with us.
Cheated is totally adorable and a real princess. The
openness and honesty that Anette showed me, is the cornerstone in
a good and honest co-operation. Thank you for your invaluable
support Anette :-)

The
weeks went by - and suddenly - like a bolt from the blue - another
beautiful girl popped up infront of my eyes.
I had a long conversation with Ann-Dorrit fra Mystery
Coons about the young lady - and I went to her and looked the kitty-girl closely in the eyes. She took me
by storm just like You Cheated did - and the 2nd of August
Red Hot Lovinī
made her entry in our house too.
Lovinī and Cheated enjoyed each other from day one and they
quickly found out that itīs best to run a house when you are two
- so thatīs what they do :-) Hereby
the second cornerstone was placed with skilled and loving guidance.
Thanx Ann-Dorrit...

One Maine Coon, two Maine Coons... and then a Somali entered the
house???
Now what is this?? This wasnīt planned! I got my Coon-girls
in the summer/fall of 2004 and I had my cornerstones in
place...and I was just SO ready to start my Maine Coon cattery.
Well - to make it short - in the same fall (2004)
a wonderful neutered Somali moved in with us. He needed a new
home because of allergy in his earlier home. I was "near by"
because it was a college to my dad - so I said yes to take him
in.
So actually we
have had Somalis nearly as long as we have had Maine Coons. I
have had the time to learn about the Somali as well as the Maine
Coon and Iīm blessed with wonderful people who are willing to
help me when I need it
I donīt know
everything about any of the breeds - and I will probably never
learn everything... But I will learn and I am very curious and
willing to learn. And everything is possible for those who truly
want it
